Our adventure begins at our reception in San Miguel de Tilarán where you will be greeted by your guide. All our guides are very friendly and experienced and will do their best to make you feel at home. You will be taken in our 4×4 into the hills on our private reserve to the starting point which is about 2.5km away. You will be introduced and connected with our tame and well mannered horses and you will be taken on a walk/trot across our homeland and traversing over hills and rocks and shallow streams. There is always a great sense of adventure and achievement whatever your level of experience and do expect to be taken in by the tranquillity and beauty of our natural surroundings.
Once we reach the waterfall/hiking trail, we will dismount from the horses and continue on foot. The hiking trail would be considered a basic/intermediate level. Your guide will be sharing their knowledge on the local fauna and flora. If nature allows, you might also get the pleasure of seeing a range of animals such as agoutis, toucans, white faced monkeys, howler monkeys, pacas, grey eagles, hawks, iguanas, snakes, crystal forges and many beautiful butterflies to name just a few.
As you connect to this most amazing wildlife, you will get the opportunity to listen and just be in the moment. For those interested in history, your guide will also share with you some amazing enigmatic petroglyphs which are figures carved into the stones by our ancestors. This little nugget of history takes us back in time and allows us to think about who may have passed these paths before us. Our hike continues and you will pass 4 beautiful waterfalls, all offering majestic power as nature unfolds before us. For the adventurous amongst us, there will also be a chance to swim in the rock pools and even walk/run behind the waterfall. The sound and feeling of the water as it cascades in front of you, is a magical force of nature not to be missed!
After this refreshing dip and once you are ready to return, you will hike back up to your horse who will be patiently awaiting your return. You will then ride your horse back to the starting point where your 4×4 will take you back to our homestead. If you are hungry after all that exercise, you can chose to enjoy a wonderful home cooked lunch at our family run restaurant back at base camp.
